Full-face or classic two-piece masks?

Full-face masks are the best choice for beginners and families. You breathe naturally – through your nose and mouth – without the need to hold a mouthpiece in your teeth. The air circulation system with separate inhale and exhale channels effectively reduces lens fogging, and the dry top prevents the snorkel from being flooded by waves. The 180° panoramic field of vision gives the sensation of swimming without a mask.

Classic masks with a separate snorkel will work better for people who dive on a single breath and go deeper – the smaller internal volume makes pressure equalization easier, and the low profile reduces water resistance.

What to look for when choosing

  • Seal silicone – soft, medical silicone conforms to the shape of the face and prevents chafing. Hard PVC is the most common cause of leaks.
  • Tempered glass lens – scratch-resistant and safe in case of impact, unlike cheaper polycarbonate lenses.
  • Size – full-face masks usually come in S/M and L/XL versions. The size is chosen based on face length, from the bridge of the nose to the chin.
  • Action camera mount – useful if you want to record your dive without holding the camera in your hand.

How to check mask fit

Place the mask on your face without putting on the strap and gently inhale. A correctly fitted mask will stay on by itself for a few seconds. If it falls off – you need a different size or a different seal shape.
